In her career, Dr. Codman-Wilson has traveled and taught extensively in North America and Asia when she worked for ACMC (Association of Church Missions Committees) and WEF (World Evangelical Fellowship), respectively. Her cross-cultural experience has also included immersion in the Asian-Indian Community in Chicago.

She took her advanced degrees in an effort to improve cross-cultural communication across various people groups. Her Masters of Theological Studies is in Hindu-Buddhist-Christian dialogue. Her Ph.D. from Garrett Seminary/Northwestern University in Chicago is on Asian American identity issues and well-being. She was an adjunct faculty at Garrett Seminary, teaching on cross-cultural understanding and field education, and at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, teaching on Spiritual Formation. She has taught ESL using the curriculum that she wrote, Of Bananas and Hard-Boiled Eggs.

In August 2010, Dr. Codman-Wilson left the pastorate at Christ Community Church, where she had served for ten years, to pastor New Hope Bible Fellowship and continue discipleship, cross-cultural education, ESL teaching, and equipping Christians to be more effective communicators in word and deed in multicultural teams and contexts. She also writes a weekly review of books in the areas of: Spiritual Formation, Global Theology, Discipleship, and Missions. The weekly reviews may be found on her blog: marylousrevie
